Parenting 101

Houston Strong offers Parenting101 which is a parenting course geared towards being an effective way to prevent child abuse. These classes provide parents with the knowledge and skills they need to provide a safe and nurturing environment for their children.

By attending parenting classes, parents can learn about child development, positive discipline techniques, and ways to communicate effectively with their children. They can also learn warning signs of abuse and neglect and how to seek help if they are struggling with their parenting responsibilities.

We encourage all parents whether biological, foster, adoptive, or kinship to attend our “Red Table Talk” parental support group classes as this provides a supportive environment for parents to discuss their challenges and concerns with other parents and trained professionals. This can reduce stress, isolation, and increase confidence in their parenting abilities.

Human Trafficking

Houston Strong utilizes five strategies to combat Human Trafficking. We accept youth in our program that has been trafficked and we work with the Clinical team to assist survivors with getting the coordinated care they need. Human Trafficking and child abuse are serious crimes that have devastating effects on individuals, families, and society. Preventing these crimes requires a multi-faceted approach, involving education, advocacy, and enforcement.

Houston Strong’s Five Strategies to help prevent human trafficking and child abuse:

Education

Educating the public about the signs and consequences of human trafficking and child abuse is critical in preventing these crimes. This includes providing information about the different forms of trafficking and abuse, such as labor trafficking, sex trafficking, physical abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect. Education can be provided in schools, community centers, and other public spaces.

Early Intervention

Early intervention is essential in preventing child abuse and trafficking. This includes identifying at-risk children and families and providing them with the support and resources they need to stay safe. This could involve providing counseling, education, or other services to families in need.

Advocacy

Advocacy is an important tool in preventing human trafficking and child abuse. This involves working to change laws and policies that make it easier for traffickers and abusers to operate. Advocacy can also involve raising awareness about the issue and mobilizing public support for prevention efforts.

Enforcement

Strong enforcement of laws against human trafficking and child abuse is essential in preventing these crimes. This includes investigating and prosecuting traffickers and abusers, as well as providing support and services to victims.

Collaboration

Collaboration between different sectors, including law enforcement, social services, health care, and education, is critical in preventing human trafficking and child abuse. By working together, these sectors can share information and resources, and develop effective strategies for prevention and intervention.
